In 2013, Val was working in London when her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She left her job, packed her bags, and moved back to Singapore to be with her. It was stressful-relocating and seeing her strong mother stricken with illness. The day to day grind of managing the impact of the disease made things worse. When her mother’s insurance claim for her treatment was rejected, Val started to realize that most people do not understand their insurance policies as well as they should. When an emergency does strike, people scramble to find the information.
In 2016, Val started PolicyPal as a digital management platform for insurance. Shortly after that, she met our CTO, KC who joined the journey and applied to enter Singapore regulator MAS Fintech Sandbox and became the first company to graduate. Today, PolicyPal is a licensed insurance broker, partnering with 30 insurance carriers to help people get access to better insurance coverage.
