General Information
Services and Programmes:

-STAMP Programme:
The Sports, Tuition and Mentoring Programme, also known as S.T.A.M.P, was launched in February 2006 to reach out to at-risk children and youths within a school setting.

S.T.A.M.P aims to train and improve these students physically, academically, and equip them with values and life skills through 3 key components: Sports, Tuition, and Mentoring.

-STRIVE
To allow participating schools and Loving Heart to better analyse the impact of the S.T.A.M.P programme on the students and track their progress, a 3-year expanded and restructured version of S.T.A.M.P was launched in March 2011.

Making its debut in 2 pilot schools, Jurong Primary School and Jurong Secondary School, S.T.R.I.V.E reached out to 40 students previously on the 1-year S.T.A.M.P programme.

-Pupil Breakfast Scheme
The Pupil Breakfast Scheme (PBS) was started by Loving Heart in 2006 to provide free breakfast for needy Primary and Secondary School students within Jurong GRC, Yuhua and Bukit Batok SMC.

It serves as a complement to the Ministry of Education Financial Assistance Scheme (MOE-FAS) and Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

Students under PBS received a daily meal voucher of $1.00 at Primary School level and $1.50 at Secondary School level to purchase food from the school canteen for 200 school days at the start of every school term in January.

Starting with only 250 student beneficiaries in 2006, the programme has since expanded to cover all Primary and Secondary Schools, including 2 Special Needs Schools.

-Free tuition
The quality of education in Singapore improves with each passing year and most children these days attend some form of tuition class to help them cope with the challenging syllabus and give them an edge when the final year examinations come around.

Unfortunately, not everyone can afford private or even group tuition and most of the less privileged families often struggle to provide their children with much-needed help in their studies. In view of this apparent need, Loving Heart launched the Free Tuition programme in 2005.

Initially catering to less privileged primary school students, the programme expanded in 2011 to include lower secondary students in need of assistance with their school work and revision. Held every Saturday (excluding Public Holidays and end-of-the-year School Holidays) from 10am to 12pm at Block 312 and Block 316 Jurong East Street 32, students registered for the Free Tuition programme can expect help from a team of dedicated volunteer tutors.

These volunteers, whom the Free Tuition students often view as big brothers or sisters, take time out from their busy work and study schedule every Saturday morning to help the students battle it out against confusing problem sums and tricky grammar questions.

Students are split into smaller groups to facilitate effective learning and monitoring of the students’ progress and performance. The student-tutor ratio is generally 3 students to every 1 tutor. Students usually bring their unfinished homework or assessment books to the tuition session where they consult the tutors on questions beyond their grasp or understanding.

Free Tuition is not all about studying. During vacation, Loving Heart along with the volunteers and kind-hearted sponsors, organise outings with the objective of enriching their experience and outlook.

-TCM
In partnership with Cheng Hong Siang Tng, Loving Heart launched a free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Clinic at Block 312 Jurong East Street 32 #01-319 on 4 January 2010 to serve needy residents.

The clinic provides consultation and medication to all patients free of charge through donations, purely voluntary, are more than welcome. Consultations are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 1-4pm. Registration starts at 12.30pm.

Led by a team of 2 TCM practitioners and a pharmacist employed by Cheng Hong, and assisted by a group of volunteers from Loving Heart, the clinic sees an average of 400 patients a month.

-Project Home-Sweet-Home
Home Sweet Home is a house visitation and cleaning project begun in 2010 to improve the living environment of needy families and aging elderly in the area we serve.

Students from different schools have participated in this project. The students refurbish the houses by cleaning, painting, and installing cost effective gadgets e.g., energy saving light bulbs, anti-slip mats, safety bars for bathrooms and toilets which are purchased by Loving Heart. On occasions, funds may be raised by students through their own fundraising events or via sponsorships.

In addition, gift hampers including food and household necessities (depending on the family’s needs) may be presented to the family after the students have finished refurbishing the house.

If you know of anyone living in a rental flat within Jurong GRC who would benefit from this programme, please feel free to contact us at 6567 4166.

-Adopt-A-Home
Jurongville Secondary School (JVSS), with the support from Loving Heart, launched an initiative to give back to the community. Kicked off in 2014, JVSS students visit Bukit Batok Home for the Aged regularly to conduct and assist the elderly residents in various handicraft activities.

In the first two sessions, the elderly and students spent time to create artworks of hand-painted pebbles and wax resistance paintings with crayons together. Despite the differences in age and language, the seniors and the students enjoyed each other’s company and created a range of attractive artworks.

Through this project, Loving Heart hopes that the students can brighten up the lives of the elderly in the Home, by bringing them some joy and laughter. The objective of this project is also for the young ones to learn and experience the important of bonding with the pioneer generation.
